1.

How were these creatures discovered?

One interesting fact is these strange creatures were discovered because they were glowing in the water! Someone was driving by and saw tons of lights in the water and then reported the scene. This happened in one of the islands in northern Canada.

4.

What makes them glow?

What makes them glow is a substance called GFP

(green fluorescent protein), which makes a green

light around the jellyfishes umbrella. This is called

bio luminescence. Bio luminescence can serve many

purposes for the Darth Vader Jellyfish and lots of

other ones as well

3.

Why do they glow?

Darth Vader Jellyfish along a lot of other types of jellyfish

use bioluminescence and their stinging cells in their body as a defense strategy against any predators that might try to attack them, they also glow to attract a mate. Some of the animals that will eat Darth Vader jellyfish are other types of jellyfish along with some breeds of sea turtles and some birds that will dodge the stinging cells to get straight to the unprotected tissue of the Darth Vader jellyfish.

5.

Do we use the protein?

Yes we do use GFP, we use it to make glowing ice cream! The protein was synthesized so no jellyfish were hurt. The inventor was Charlie Harry Francis.
