Davis Presidency

Lincoln's Presidency

In 1824, when Davis was 16 years old, President James Monroe requested that Davis would become a cadet in the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York.

Davis was named President of the Confederate States of America on February 18, 1861.

Davis hoped that the North would let the South secede in peace from the union, but then realized that Lincoln had no intentions of letting the south secede peacefully. When Lincoln did not turn over Fort Sumter to the Confederacy, Davis authorized the attack, marking the start of the Civil War.

After the war, Davis was captured on May 10, 1865 in Georgia. He went to prison for two years at Fort Monroe in Virginia for his crimes against the Union.
