Brainstorming

Basically make sure you remember

All the numbers that end with odd numbers like 1, 3,5,7,11... are prime

Some fun facts

1. No prime number greater than 5 ends in a 5. Any number greater than 5 that ends in a 5 can be divided by 5

2. Zero and 1 are not considered prime numbers

Something to think about...

To prove whether a number is indeed a prime number, first try to divide it by 2, and see if you get a whole number. If you do, it cannot be a prime number. If you don't get a whole number, next try dividing it by prime numbers: 3, 5, 7, 11 (9 is divisible by 3) and so on, always dividing by a prime number

Honors Geometry

A prime number is a number whose only factors are 1 and itself. That means there is no whole number that evenly divides the prime number.

Davis, Glam Glen, Re, ed. Math Warehouse. Hot Chalk, n.d. Web. 12 Mar. 2013. <http://www.mathwarehouse.com/>. I chose this source because it had an official definition of prime numbers. Also becuse it has good overall basic facts about prime numbers along with charts to help the learner visualize the prime numers better.

Math Practice Problems. John Cradler, 13 Oct. 2010. Web. 12 Mar. 2013. <http://www.mathscore.com/math/practice/Prime%20Numbers/>. I chose this source because it had the perfect examples of prime numbers at the perfect level for an average ninth grader.

Prime Numbers. Khanacadamy.org. Khan Acadamy, n.d. Web. 13 Mar. 2013. <https://www.khanacademy.org/math/arithmetic/factors-multiples/prime_numbers/v/prime-numbers>. This is a video from Khan academy, that gives a visual demonstration of prime numbers. It's a reliable resource because it comes from a reliable sight and shows a good demonstration of prime numbers.

Wolfram Math World. N.p., n.d. Web. 12 Mar. 2013. <http://mathworld.wolfram.com/PrimeNumber.html>. This source comes from Wolfram Math World. The reason why this is a good source, is because it explains the basics of prime numbers, and different functions for prime numbers.

Sketches

The only even prime number is 2. All other even numbers can be divided by 2

A prime number can be divided, without a remainder, only by itself and by 1.

Examples:

For example, 17 can be divided only by 17 and by 1.

Indicate whether or not the number displayed is a prime number.

1. 6 a prime number.

2. 19 a prime number.

Indicate whether or not the number displayed is a prime number.

1. 47 a prime number.
