Vendian Time Period

The vendian some times called the Ediacaran, is the lastest portion of the Proterozoic Era. It began about 650 million years ago, and ended about 543 million years ago with the beginging of the cambrian period. Unlike later portions of the geologic time scale, the vendian hsd no formal subdivisions nor distict early boundary.

The Vendian time period belongs to the Precambrian Era.

"The atmosphere of the early Earth is poorly known, but it is thought to have been smothered in reducing gases, containing very little free oxygen. The young planet had a reddish tint, and its seas were thought to be olive green. Many materials with insoluble oxides appear to have been present in the oceans for hundreds of millions of years after the Earth's formation.

There was lots of water and little oxygen in the air.

Earth's early atmosphere was probably made up of hydrogen cyanide, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide, and water.

Life only existed in the sea.

Very few fossils because they lived in the sea.

The animals were all soft-bodied.

Green algae, bacteria, planktonic single celled algae, and vendian biota.
