The Aztec & Mayan Math System

The Mathematics System

The Three Mayan Calendars

The three Mayan calendars are used for religious ceremonies, harvest season, and they were also used for important events that would come soon.

Mayan Number System

The 20-base System

Calendars Related to Math

Mayan calendars used math to count the days of harvest and also to plan important ceremonies and religious gatherings.

The Mayans created the 20-base to help them chart the days that the crops needed to be harvested. Soon afterward they decided that this was a helpful tool to be used in ceremonies and in trading goods and services.

The Aztecs Math System

The Aztecs way of math was called the Codex Vergara. They copied most of what the Mayans did for math and then made it their own by switching what the number bars were. They did not have good crops so they used the math system to trade their goods and plan war dates.
