Grayton Beach was founded in1885 by Army Major Charles T. Gray when he built himself a house. Major Gray soon got neighbors in 1890 when Army Generals
William Miller, and William Wilson moved their families here and mapped out where the town's streets would be built.
As the ’40s arrived, electricity was brought to the village by the Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative.
During WW2 the US Coast Guard
established base in Grayton,
renting many of the homes. Including
the Washaway House
This was The Red Bar building during the war
1995 was also the year the Red Bar opened

In 1995 Hurricane Opal hit the Florida coast-line and many places like Grayton Beach, covering the village in
sand from the surrounding area.

The ’30s saw Grayton Beach and South Walton County become much easier for the rest of the country to reach. Due to Highway 98 and the 331 Bridge being completed.
