There is a collectible card game called Xeko which
revolves around endangered species. 4% of profit made
from the merchandise and cards sold from Xeko goes to
the Conservation International which goes towards
protecting wild animals like the Sumatran flying squirrel.
By purchasing merchandise from Xeko I can help the
Sumatran flying squirrel.
The Sumatran flying squirrel is under threat by the
people that are destroying their habitat for firewood
and conversion to agriculture land. Sumatran flying
squirrels are also in danger because they are found in only a small area, so when the habitat is destroyed
where they live their is no where for them to go.
Some habits of the Sumatran flying squirrel are
gliding. The Sumatran flying doesn't fly as it
glides. They have membranes down their sides that
are attached to its ankles and wrists. They use
these membranes to glide from tree to tree.
This animal is only found on the island of Sumatra. It
is lives in the hollow of trees and sometimes take the
nests of other animals. You usually only find the
Sumatran flying squirrel in dense, forested areas. The
Sumatran flying squirrel is nocturnal, it sleeps in its tree
or nest during the day and hunts for food in the night.
The most common name is the Sumatran flying squirrel but the scientific name is the Hylopetes Winstoni. This animal is currently endangered.
