This book takes place in Alaska and is about a 12 year old girl Willow, her family, best friend Kaylie, and six dogs. Willow is trying to prove to her parents that she is growing up now and is more responsible, so she asks if she can mush the six dogs to her grandparents' house. She ends up leaving with 3 of her sled dogs for two days. On the way home she gets into an accident, crashing into a tree. She injures her leg and her favorite dog Roxy, who bled very badly in her eyes. After Willow's parents find her and bring her home, they find out that Roxy is blind. They would have put her down if it weren't for Willow. During school time Willow and Kaylie skip school to go to her grandparents' house to have them take care of Roxy. Unfortunately, they end up getting stranded at night in a big snowstorm. Richard, a boy who likes Kaylie, finds them and brings Kaylie home while Willows family finds her. Once they get to her grandparents' house a very important secret is told which affects Willow's life. Also Willow and Roxy figure out something that only they know.

In my opinion I thought this book was sad. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy dramas rather than science-fiction.
The Character motivation in this book was during the part when the family was about to put Roxy down but Willow refused to let that happen. It clearly shows that Willow is determined to give Roxy a second chance and that she loves her and would never want to break their friendship. So at one part of the story her and Kaylie skip school at 11:50 to go to her grandparents' house so they can take care of Roxy instead of her parents putting her down. A quote from the story is "They can't kill Roxy."

The author's purpose in the story was to entertain the reader about a special bond between Willow and her dog, Roxy.
See- "Now her eyes are crusted with- with what? They're all bandaged, and when I lift a corner of the bandage, I see a bloody mess. " Frost 31
Sound- "Roxy's howl cuts through me " Frost 26
Touch- "I stumble; a branch jabs into my leg." Frost 26
Smell- "Lucky sniffs my hand, she smells salmon." Frost 3
Taste- "Let's not think of this as "We're eating dog food."" Frost 50
Willow is angry that no one is treating her like she wants to be treated, as a grown up. She wants to mush the dogs out to grandma and grandpa's by herself except her parents assume that she will get lost on the trail or run into dangerous animals. Her dad almost let her go before, but her mom with no hesitation said "No."
