What Don't I know?

As you can see, Africa can be very difficult to remember with just one method. For those of you who are unfamiliar with my prezis I will explain how they work but If you saw the European Study Guide, feel free to move on to the next slide.

For those of you sticking around, I like to divide studying into 3 methods.

1. Memorizing the entire thing at once.

- Not too fun, not very easy but if it works, it works.

2. Looking at individual profiles of each country in Africa

- Still not very fun and VERY time-consuming.

3. Grouping the countries into small easy-to-study groups and practicing them daily for a week.

-A happy medium between the first two to help you learn at your own pace.

On the next slide I will start demonstrating the third method by presenting my versions of the easy-to-study groups.

What Don't I Know?

For those of you who know about my prezis, ignore this comment, and just go right to the quiz. If you are new, let me explain how this works. This is a test so you can find out what you don't know so you can study. Here's how it works: CLICK on the picture, GET a piece of paper and NUMBER down, 1-54. then, write the name of the country next to its corresponding number. Remember, no cheating... this is for your benefit only so cheating won't help you get ANYWHERE...

African Map Quiz

For those of you who have seen a map of Africa (like the one shown here), you know about the many oddly named countries. Africa and Europe are both rather difficult continents to learn. In this Study Guide, I will use some of the same study tools in the European Map Quiz, but with more practical use involving African countries. To make it easy for those who are new to my study guides, I will briefly explain each method and tool prior to using them.

A Few Ways To Study

What do I need to study?

Here I will explain a few handy ways to study and learn the countries in Africa. People learn differently, so see below to see what kind of learner you are, and study accordingly.

If you like:

Pictures and Videos

You probably are a visual learner. You learn by looking, watching and observing. If this fits you, find an atlas, globe or some other map to study.

Now that you know what countries you know and don't know, you can figure out what you need to study. So, to study, try to learn the countries in the group where you got the most wrong in. (Look on Slide 5).

Sounds and Audio

At the beginning of my Prezi, I would like to note that Africa was one of the hardest map quizzes I have taken. Maybe it was that there are 54 countries to memorize in a week or two, or maybe the unfamiliarity of the continent. However, I believe that the sheer difficulty resided in the many difficult names to remember and place on a map. In the next slide I will show you that I merged many if not all my study tools to help me memorize this very intricate continent. But in my initial learning of the countries I used the site Sheppard Software as many of you may know about. This is an online Geography quiz site. Try it! it may help a lot!

You are probably an audio learner. You like to listen, and hear words pronounced properly. If this fits you, find a recording, or someone smart who can dictate the name of the country, and you find it on the map.

Notes and Writing

You are probably a read-write learner. You like to take notes, copy stuff down, make flashcards, or read descriptions and lists. If this fits you, Write up some flashcards and take the test you took last slide.

You may find it benefitial if you study and/or learn the countries in a group a few daily. Some people find it easy to take a large task in pieces at at time, but others like to take on a task head-on and learn something as fast as possible.

Either way, I recommend doing online Geography Quizzes, such as: Sheppard Software, Lizard Point and plenty others.

Hands-on activities

You are probably a kinesthetic learner. You like to try things out yourself by interacting with materials and learning from your awareness of touch. If this fits you, try taking online quizzes or finding interactive maps for you to use.
