Instinct Theory

Advantages

The innate behaviors of the instinct theory allows organisms to react quickly to danger and allows them to "know" what to do and when to do it.

Having instinct allows us to survive in dangerous situations, make right choices, and protect ourselves.

Example

An example of instinct theory is when a dog gets wet, it instinctively shakes its fur to get the wetness out of its fur.

Another example is when birds instinctively migrate prior to the winter season.

Human Instincts

Humans have many instincts. The fight or flight instinct to either run away(flight) or stand up and take action(fight).

Definition

The theory that all behaviors will be determined by innate factors and biologically based behaviors that generally lead to survival.

Disadvantages

There's limited behavioral repertoire. There's a limited ability to adapt to changes. There can be the right responses in the wrong situations. We could react to something that our body doesn't like but we know is okay, so we have the reaction but we know it won't effect us.
