Analysis

All throughout most of the 1800s and 1900s, women played a major role in the success of the role as a country in fighting against the enemy's. When men were deployed and fighting on the battlefield most women had to take up the previously male role jobs such as driving trucks, laboratory technicians and even radio operators. This was largely possible because of the campaign of propaganda posters that attracted women to these roles. As depicted in the Spanish Republican Poster wanting to recruit women, an ordinary woman who is normally home working for her house/family can finally have a chance to step out of those norms and help the army by becoming a member of the spanish revolution. The illustrator wanted to create a sense of duty and place for the women in the society while also providing the logical statement of “we need you women” to the young women out there who are questioning their duty in the civil war. This was done so by giving an example of a woman who is a everyday person holding a gun up in the sky with a determined look on her face, which could be related to almost every women in the society that they too can help in the war, by physically fighting against the enemies. The bold statement of “we need you women” gives the audience the rhetorical logical response to their thinking of if they should possibly help or even if they are capable to participate in the war and in return increasing their responsibility in the war, which all in all promotes the number of volunteers in the revolution.

Analysis

At the time of the two great world wars of WWI and WWII many people around the world had held the opinion that the war which took the men away from their homes and instead put them on the battlefield helped advance the women that stayed back economically and politically. This was because jobs were now left open that men had once occupied leading to many corporations to increase the opportunities for women in the paid labor market. As depicted in the propaganda titled “You are the only ones that can lead Britain to victory” many people around the world, especially in Great Britain, were trying to recruit women into the WAAF that were just the normal everyday homemakers into something bigger... the participants of the great war. The Illustrator wanted to create a sense of empowerment and responsibility within the communities of women in Britain with the illustration of the American women as an example for the british women to look up to and the newspaper providing insight into what the detrimental future might hold without enough volunteers in the war. By giving the example of the American women to the british women really empowered them to stand up for their own country during the dire needs of time, while also providing them with the newspaper as a example of caution to those who might not want to volunteer because of fear, that they might as well be the sole reason that their country crumbles. The illustrator also provides the logical fallacious statements such as “You are the only ones that can lead Britain to victory “and “You have the right to watch war. Therefore it's right for you women to participate in it”that represent the logical fallacies of False dilemma and Equivocation to further exemplify the need for their country (Britain) to have women step in, and increasing their moral responsibility. They had also completed this task by also applying the logical fallacies of Ad populum and Slippery slope to the drawings of the American women standing in front of a group of British women giving the ladies the idea that since all countries are letting women in war, so should their own and the newspaper depicting the future that because there were not enough volunteers (men and women) Great Britain lost in war leading to the overall fall of the government and empire forever. All of these visual rhetorical devices and logical fallacies helped get the point across to the audience that their input in the war is greatly valued.

Analysis

When World War II had started, we as a country as a whole were very reluctant to join a war which might cost numerous deaths and our most valuable resources. But the United States committed itself completely to the war after the notorious Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, seen as an act of invasion, this also meant that U.S. used all of it's greatest assets which meant that not only men but also the women in the society. As shown in this eye catching poster of a women proudly looking up, while dressed in a military outfit, draws attention to the fact that she is a women that is in the Army Nurse Corps. Before this women were treated commonly as beautiful actors, traditional home makers or even vamps but with this new representation of the American women really does appeal to the basic housewife on many in America. The illustrator, made one of the many other posters in the world at that time, wanted to create a call to action and sense of leadership within the communities of women out in America who were taking care of the households as their husbands were away, with showcasing a scenario of an everyday woman like them who is in the army corps and the almost order like sentence of “you are needed now” with the dull background emphasizing the importance of their actions. With the example of the women given in the poster, this creates the feeling of almost if she can do it, then why can't I which promotes more growth of the Army Nurse Corps. Also with the demanding statement of “you are needed now” makes the women feel almost as if they have to go since the war is reaching a peak and their help is greatly needed/appreciated. Not only would joining the army finally be the chance for them to fight for their country just like their fellow male companions, but also a chance for them to prove themselves and to the country as worthy enough to equalize the distinction between both genders.

Not only was World War II, significant for defeating Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Germany in the 1900’s from taking over the world, which shaped most of the countries around the world today economically and politically, but also had an significant effect on the original patriarchal societies that were held in utmost priority in almost all countries, especially there in Russia. In this propaganda poster it draws attention to the young women who look like she is dressed in a man's clothes, with her whole body expression looking like she is in control over the missile and determined to wipe out the enemies. The illustrator, throughout this poster, wanted to create emotions such as guilt and sense of duty with providing the example of the determined woman needing more volunteers to help her out and logical appeal within the audience with the implied statement of “More help is needed.” By showcasing the young women who appears to be a military officer in determination makes the audience, who mostly are comprised of women, feel a sense of guilt for not helping out their fellow citizen and almost induces a sense of duty within in them to do something about the war needing more women to work on the battlefield. Also by providing that more officers are needed with the word more emphasized in the illustrations, it shows the logical thinking and appeal behind the illustrator's work, because of the fact that some women might simply not go because they think that the army had enough volunteers but shows that every one counts.

Analysis

During World War II, Women who for centuries have been thought to serve as the caretakers of the house and children were now needed for fill for more of the traditional male jobs and even the male role in the household, as their husbands, fathers, and brothers went off to war and sometimes even gave their lives. The illustrator, as seen in this propaganda titled “Canadian Women's Army Corps ” depicting two young people, on the left the female and the right a male standing next to each other “shoulder to shoulder” stating that this is their war too, wanted to create emotions such as guilt and pride within the audience while also promoting women to join the Canadian Women's Army Corps with the implied call the action statement of women finally getting the chance to fight for their side of the war also. From the propaganda the illustrator is able to encourage more women in Canada to go into war by joining things such as the Nurse Corps, armed forces, or even traditional female works such as cooking, so that more men can go into combat, and finally have the chance to participate in the war with equal effort as the men which is shown through the man and woman standing shoulder to shoulder in the illustrator's drawings. With placing the idea in the heads of many women around Canada that they finally have the chance to participate in the war and fight for their country alongside men, puts sense of pride within them as they have the chance to do so after a long period of time, while also provoking feelings of guilt as some might not want to serve their country right away in fear of losing their life.
