The song "Don't you Worry Child" by Swedish House Mafia is a good representation of Steinbeck's The Pearl Song of the Pearl because the pearl in to book provides protection. It could give them things they couldn't have before and as the song says, they don't have to worry anymore. In the song "Don't you Worry Child" Swedish House Mafia says "Don't you worry, don't you worry, child. See heaven's got a plan for you." This example shows a similar example of the Song of the Pearl because he thinks the pearl is the only thing that will provide him education. He may have a future. Both "songs" also show the literary device of personification. In The Pearl's Song of the Pearl Steinbeck says, "Kino held the great pearl in his hand, and it was warm and alive in his hand. And the music of the pearl had merged with the music of the family so that one beautified the other." This is an example of the Personification because the pearl was not really warm and alive , he just felt it that way because he was so grateful to have it. Similarly in "Don't you worry child" Swedish house of mafia sings "See heaven's got a plan for you." This is also an example of personification because heaven doesnt really have a plan but its a plan that is sure to come true. Both songs show how something can bring you peace, protection and guarantee you a good future.
Song of the evil/enemy
The song "Cruella de vil" by Selena Gomez is a great representation of Steinbeck's The Pearl Song of Evil because they both talk about something or someone scary waiting to do harm. In " Cruella de vil" Selena sings "The curl of her lips, the ice in her stare
all innocent children had better beware she's like a spider waiting for the kill" this example shows a similar idea in the Song of Evil because the scorpion in the book goes down the rope towards Coyotito intending to sing him just like Cruella is intending to do harm. Both songs also demonstrate the literary device of symbolism. In The Pearl's Song of Evil Steinbeck says "In his mind a new song had come, the Song of Evil, the music of the enemy, of any foe of the family, a savage, secret, dangerous melody, and underneath, the Song of the Family cried plaintively." This is an example of symbolism because evil symbolizes enemy, savage, danger and secrets. Similarly in "Cruella de vil" Selena Gomez sings "At first you think Cruella is a devil but after time has worn away the shock you come to realize, you've seen her kind of eyes watching you from underneath a rock." This is also an example of symbolism because the devil would symbolize the evilness in her eyes. Both "songs" show how evilness and cruelty.
Personal song (:
The song "Brave" by Sara Bareilles is a great representation of my song of happiness because i love how the song is towards everone is scared of standing out. Sometimes i dont like to stand out but other times i know i should be brave and say what i think is write. Thats how you get to know people and make friends. In "brave" Sara sings "Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that do When they settle ‘neath your skin kept on the inside and no sunlight sometimes a shadow wins. This example is significant because it shows that you never know what will happen if you dont take a chance. Sometimes its the right thing to do. Sometimes i hold myself back and not say something but in the end i wish i would have. Whenever i hear this song i get happy turn the music all the way up and sing along.
The Song of the Family
The song "Broken" by Lifehouse is a perfect representation of Steinbeck's The Pearl Song of the Family because it talk about being held on by someone at your worst times and that's what your family does. When you have a broken heart or you feel like you can't move forward your family will be there to help you out. You can find comfort in your family members. In "Broken" Lifehouse sings "I'm hanging on another day just to see what you throw my way and I'm hanging on to the words you say , you said that I will be okay " This example shows a similar idea in the Song of the Family because Kino feels comfort in hearing everything happening on around him with his family. Just like this person finds comfort in his family and expects help from them knowing he with be okay with them. Both song also show the literary device of symbolism. In The Pearl's Song of the Family, Juana sang softly an ancient song that had only three notes and yet endless variety of interval. And this was part of the family song too. It was all part. Sometimes it rose to an aching chord that caught the throat, saying this is safety, this is warmth, this is the Whole. This is an example of symbolism because the song that Juana sings represent the family and how it all together and complete as a whole. Similarly in "broken" Lifehouse sings "I still see your reflection inside of my eyes, That are looking for a purpose, they're still looking for life." This is also an example of symbolism because the eyes he looks at make him feel life and purpose for it. Both song show the connection between family and how they complete you.
