Love you to by the Beatles form the album Revolver was written and sung by George Harrison and inculdes the sitar , tabla , tambura.This was the first Beatles song that seriously attempted to incorporate Indian classical music and has even been hailed as the first pop song to emulate a non-western form in structure and instrumentation ,creating Raga Rock.
Now a days there a lot of pop songs with indian influence in them. But this was one of the first song to incorporate classical indian music and only that. In 1966 that was something unheard of. This was the most innovative thing ever done in the music industry and opening for endless possibilities, which has popularized Bollywood music.
As someone who has been learning Classical Indian Music for about 8 years, this has been my greatest discovery - two of my passions have been conjoined in a intricate yet enjoyable song.
What is Raaga?
The Sanskrit word raaga is defined as colour or texture to the music. Raaga gives colour to a musical compositions. A raaga is the combination of several notes that is composed in a certain way. Many raagas use the same notes, but the way they are played is what makes them unique. The difference between Western Classical Music And Indian Classical Music is that in Western, there are no restricted tune for a composition, but you shall play the written music as is.While in Classical Indian Music, you have a strict tune (Raaga) to follow if you are to compose in that specific Raaga. That has to consist of the notes the Raaga only consist of.
