Canopy

The Canopy is the very top of the tree and the highest peak of the forest. It is also the highest level.

It is still important to have it on the tree but it is one of the worst spots on the tree because it is the most highest spot on the tree and mostly no animals or birds live there.

Understory

The Understory is under the Canopy and just a little bit higher than th middle of the tree. The Understory is one of the best spot on the tree because it is still in the branches and not to high and still on the bark but not to low.

Bark Patterns

Branching

The branching is different because there is different trees and different trees have different shapes, sizes and heights.

The shorter trees have less room for branching, and for anyone to see the bark.

Alberta Native Trees

Coniferous and Deciduos

  • (1 CONIFEROUS) Balsam Poplar
  • (2 CONIFEROUS) White Poplar
  • (1 DECIDUOUS) Western Poplar
  • (2 DECIDUOUS) Alpine Poplar

Leafs spacing

Depends on what tree

The leaf spacing on a deciduous tree is more spread out then a coniferous tree.

Nutrient Cycle

  • Starts in the ground
  • Grows into grass
  • Animal eats the grass
  • Then another animal eats the other animal
  • Then the 2nd animal gets the nutrients

Living biotic

Non Living abiotic

Underbrush

  • Rocks
  • Water
  • Water
  • Trees
  • Animals
  • Sun
  • Tempature

Deciduous and Coniferous trees

The Underbrush is near the

bottom of the tree and it is still

on the bark and not on the

grass.Underbrush is one of the

best spots on the tree along

with the Understory because

it is in the middle.

Water Cycle

  • Deciduous trees have leaves instead of needles
  • Coniferous trees are shaped like a Christmas tree's.
  • Deciduous trees are inportant because deciduous trees could turn out to be a apple tree.

Oxygen cycle

Water cycle starts with the rain then goes to the tree, runs of the tree goes to a river and evaporates back into the sky.

  • Oxygen cycle starts by the trees
  • Then goes up in the air
  • Then a animal breaths it in
  • Then it gets back to the tree
  • When the animal breaths it to the tree

it is called carbon dioxide.

Forest Floor

Trees and Forest's

Tree Cookies

Forest floor is on the ground and it is the lowest level on the level's and it is one of the worst levels because it isn't part of the tree.

Animals: Bugs, Wolf, Elk and deer

Up Close

Tree cookies are found in the tree when you split it open. It is attatched to the inside bark. Tree Cookies have rings to tell you how old they were.

This Tree Cookie was in a forest fire

and you can see the scar on the left side. As you can see this tree was 42 years old. This tree was very healthy.

Lichens

Fungi

Lichens are from algae.

Lichens come from living things and the living things rot and turn out to be Lichens.

Conks

Conks grow on trees.

The conks stick out of trees

like branches.

Definition

Pictures of the Food Chain

The Fungi is a type of mold and yeasts.

The fungi is also a microoraginisms and

it is not a plant or a animal.

Mushrooms

Mushrooms come from the ground and soil, and they grow on the forest floor. Most mushrooms are poisonous but not all.

Mycorrhizal

Fungi

Grows under the ground and has roots in the soil.

When it grows it looks like a normal mushroom.

Food Chains

The food chain starts with the energy which is the sun to make the plant. When the plant is done growing a secondary consumer will come along and eat part of the plant to get the nutrients and energy. Then a tertiary consumer gets the rest.
