An oxymoron is a figure of speech in which two word combinations that are contradictory to each other.
Oxymoron are word-play, in the same class as puns
e.g. Open Secret, Liquid Gas, Big Baby.
Oxymorons can have a wide range of applications. Oxymorons can be used for dramatic effect such as Hell's Angels or deafening silence. They can also be comical such as Jumbo Shrimp or Big Baby.
Oxymorons are usually word combinations that are a contradiction to each other while Paradoxes refer to actual conditions or concepts which appear to present an impossible situation. So they are not outright the same.
Paradoxes are statements that appears to be self-contradictory or silly but may still include a truth. It usually contains two statements that are true, but both can't be true at the same time.
e.g. I am nobody. I know one thing, and that's nothing. This sentence is false.
Paradoxes are often used to create an unusual thought or visual image with words. They can be used convey a tone of irony as well lead the reader contemplation on the subject of the poem.
