Gatsby Gets Hired by Dan Cody

Daisy and Gatsby Reunite and Start up an Affair

The Funeral

Here Nick meets Jordan Baker and also learns of Tom's affair with Myrtle Wilson. The reader gains knowledge of Nick and Daisy's relationship that eventually becomes crucial in the book.

Nick agrees to have Daisy over at his house for tea where Gatsby will be invited as well so they can nonchalantly meet as if by chance. At first it is very awkward between Gatsby and Daisy, but before long they were able to rekindle their love for each other and start their affair. Here, all of Gatsby's hopes and dreams are beginning to follow through.

Nick arranges Gatsby's funeral and the only people who show up are: Nick, Gatsby's father, Owl eyes and a couple of random people who the reader doesn't know. No one seems to care that Gatsby died, not even Daisy. Afterward, Daisy goes back to Tom and moves away and Nick breaks off his relationship with Jordan baker and moves back to the Midwest.

Jay Gatsby was in the military during World War I (WWI) and meets Daisy at her home. The two quickly fall in love and their love becomes the premise of the conflict in the plot of the storyline. After they are separated, Gatsby's life revolved around this short moment in his life. Everything he did was geared back to starting where they left off and renewing their love that they had.

While Jay Gatsby is working on Lake Superior, he noticed a yacht that belonged to Dan Cody, a very wealthy mogul. Gatsby rows out to the yacht to warn Dan Cody about a storm that was about to hit. Cody, being extremely grateful hired Gatsby as his assistant where Gatsby was able to learn many things including: his distaste in drinking, and he is able to learn how to become wealthy himself after he is cheated out of Cody's inheritance.

Nick Carraway Attends Yale

Nick Carraway is Invited and Attends Gatsby's party for the First Time

Climax

Nick Carraway attends Yale and moves onto West Egg, Manhattan for schooling purposes. This is where Nick Carraway and Jay Gatsby are able to meet and carry out the storyline.

This begins the conflict in the book. Gatsby finds out that while he was away at war, Daisy got engaged to Tom Buchanan. Gatsby is mortified that his dream girl is marrying someone other than him. He becomes determined to win her heart back eventually. Gatsby works really hard and gains wealth over time (through bootlegging) to impress her when he has the chance to see her again. He also buys a mansion across the bay from her house and throws extravagant parties in hope that she would stumble in one day.

Nick receives an invitation from Gatsby to join his party so Nick goes to his first party at Gatsby's. Here, Nick meets Gatsby for the first time and becomes acquainted with him. He soon finds out that Gatsby wants Nick to help arrange a time for Gatsby and Daisy to meet after five years since Nick is Daisy's cousin. The next day Gatsby takes Nick to New York City for lunch in order to impress Nick with his wealth and help convince Nick to assist him with reuniting him with Daisy.

In the Climax of the story, Tom, Daisy, Nick, Jordan, and Gatsby all go to New York for the day. Gatsby and Daisy drive in one car while everyone else drove in another car. Gatsby convinces Daisy that it is time to tell Tom of their affair and that Daisy would be giving Tom a divorce. This however is not enough for Gatsby, he also wants her to say that she never loved Tom in the first place and that he was the only person she ever loved. Tom and Gatsby then proceed to fight over Daisy and Daisy becomes swayed in her emotions. Daisy and Gatsby take off in his car and speed off towards Daisy's house. On the way, Daisy hits Myrtle with Gatsby's car and lets Gatsby take he blame for it. They leave Myrtle there and continue home. Everyone else comes to the scene of the accident and Tom tells Myrtle's distraught husband, George, that Gatsby killed Myrtle and that he was he one having the affair with her. Outraged, George goes to Gatsby's house and kills him.
