Magisterium

Conclusion

In conclusion i would probably rate this book 4.5 stars out of 5. This is because i thought that the characters weren't quit descriptive. But then again this book is good for getting your imagination going. Thank you for listening to my presentation and i hope that you found this book interesting.

Theme

I think that the theme that the author was trying to convey is the science and magic theme. Also i believe that the book is intended to allow the reader to be very imaginative and think abut how the story might progress.

Connections

Even though this book is fiction it still has the aspect of science and is a bit futuristic. There's no telling how the future might go but the book could give us ideas to what could happen in real life. For example the technology in the book. The Authorities first used drones or robots to find Glenn and her father. This could give us some insight on the future technology.

Characters

Protagonist

Setting

The main protagonist in the story is Glenn. She is a smart student who takes after her father in her great knowledge of science. Because of this she is more of a realistic person. She at first denies everything about magic after discussing what was beyond the rift border. Soon though, she will find out whether this is true or not.

The setting of the story varies between a bit in the beginning and the rest following. First it takes place in the Colloquium which is the side of the border that was salvaged and fixed up after the rift event. While the Magisterium is the other side which is presumed to be a barren wasteland.

Antagonists

The rift event is an event that took place around the twenty-second century. This gives it a bit of a futuristic setting.

The antagonist that i would say played a more dominant role in the story would be Micheal Sturges, the head of the Authorities. He was mainly interested in the project that Glenn's father was working on, which is a metal bracelet that could penetrate the border. This causes him to devise a plan to take the bracelet even if it means hurting people in the process.

A Part That I Found Interesting

A two-mile band of forest, with a string of towering red warning lights at its center, formed a no-man's-land between them and what lay on the other side of the border. Beyond the border there was a vast, barren plain: uncountable miles of flattened trees, scorched earth, and piles of rubble that had once been great cities.

"People look up at the clouds and they see faces'" Glenn said. "They look at the stars and see constellations. They look across the border and instead of seeing a graveyard they see mutants and monsters." (p.g. 16-17)

To all fans of science fiction/fantasy, without a doubt this book is for you. Jeff Hirsch gives his take on a world in the twenty-second century after the post apocalypse.
