Barriers To Migration

Barriers to migration

Barriers to migration consist of Personal barriers, National barriers and Legal barriers. There are many factors that contribute to a person not being able to migrate. National barriers are barriers that happen physically, like two countries may be located very far from each other. Last, Legal barriers consist of barriers that prevent people from leaving their own country and some people from entering.

Personal barriers consist of emotional and financial barriers. emotional barriers occur when families move to another continent, they may never see their loved ones again. For families to move to another continent it may also be to expensive as well.

You may want to go to a sports event or go shopping, but cannot get a ride. This is called a barrier. You can overcome these obstacles or give up on your plans. Personal, national, and legal migration barriers often stand in the way of people's plans.

National Barriers

Legal barriers consists of migration within and between countries that is regulated by international law.The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights includes freedom of movement.

In the, 1951 the UN expanded these statements in the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. When Refugees came to Canada, they declare refugee status under this Convention. They are allowed to stay in Canada until their case is presented at a legal hearing.

The greatest national barrier to overcome is political policy. For example, a command society may not let people leave the country. This was the situation in Russia and communist-controlled Eastern Europe between 1945 and 1989. In the year 1967 a point system was introduced to access potential immigrants, almost like a report card.
