North American Free Trade Agreement

NASA after the Challenger Accident

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was an effort to improve American exports. Canada, US, and Mexico all signed the NAFTA agreement. Supported by President Bill Clinton this is still being debated in current times.

The Challenger took off on January 28, 1986 and just 7 seconds after the spaceship took off it killed 7 member on the ship. After this horrible incident President Reagan put the shuttle on pause for a few years and formed the Rogers Commission to investigate the incident.

Gorbechev

Jimmy Carter

Gorbechev was the last general secretary of the Soviet Union and he also brought an end to the Soviet Union and Cold War. On December 7, 1987 he helped end the Cold War with the signing of the INF Treaty.

Jimmy Carter was the 39th president and served from the years of 1977 to 1981. Carter created the Departments of Energy and Education during his presidency. President Carter negotiated the peace treaty between Israel and Egypt in 1979 in support of human rights.

Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg Schoolwas a court case of segregation in the schools. The school board tried resolving the issue that majority African American students attended urban city schools and majority white students attended suburban schools but there wasn't a positive impact from trying to resolve these problem. In 1971 a case was filed against the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for a six year old child named James Swann and the court realized there were many problems: one-race schools, racial quotas, attendance zones, and transportation.

Fall of the Berlin Wall

Gerald Ford

The Berlin Wall stopped people from fleeing communism in the eastern and western part of Germany for 28 years. On January 9, 1989 the Berlin Wall got destroyed and the world celebrated.

Ford became President after President Nixon resigned. Ford served from the years 1974 to 1977. President Ford received a lot of criticism from people. Ford offered the people who dodged the draft for the Vietnam War mercy if they swore allegiance to the US and perform two years of public service.

Brady Bill

The Strategic Defense is also known as the "Star Wars" program. President Reagan created the SDI on March 23, 1983 to use Ground and Space-based systems to protect the US from Nuclear attacks.

Richard Nixon

Named after James Brady the Brady Bill was passed by Congress, provided for a federal order for background checks on people who wanted to buy guns. President Clinton also supported this Bill.

New Federalism

Nixon was our 37th president of the United States from the years 1969 to 1974. Nixon worked towards women's rights and improving the environment. He was the creator of the "New Federalism" which helped satisfy Southern partners in his election coalition. Nixon also signed the Paris Peace Accords in 1973, which established Consumer Product Safety Commission in 1972, and ended the draft.

This was President Nixon's way of satisfying both the Southern partners during his election and the Court orders of reducing segregation. This helped the US because it reduced the amount of African American kids that attended all-black schools.

Tiananmen Square is the largest city in Beijing, China. After the death of communist general party Hu Yaobang on April 15, 1989 many students began protesting. Many University students protested and begged for freedom of press and speech. After the long weeks of protesting the Chinese government finally put an end to it and attacked the City Square.

Impeachment of President Clinton

Clinton wasn't a saint and he had an out-marriage affair with a White House intern in 1998. He lied in front of a grand jury when questioned. Later on in the year he was forced in telling the truth about what he did. In December the House of Representatives voted on the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

Saddam Hussein

Operation Desert Storm

Saddam Hussein was a dictator of Iraq and a major foreign policy concerns for President Bush.

Operation Desert Storm was a massive air assault against Iraq on January 16, 1991 ordered by President Bush.This assault was one of the first of the Persian Gulf Wars. Bush sent a cease-fire in February of 1991 and successfully captured Kuwait.
