Is The U.S. Following in Rome's Footsteps?

Why the U.S. Isn't Following Rome

There are several similarities between the United States and Rome. We both have a very large military presence. Both of us spend lots of resources on the homeless, and we both face a rising debt. Even our land mass is about equal.

However, I do not believe that our country is following Rome's path. Rome conquered other countries, and controlled them. The US tries to include people into our nation, but we don't take over other countries and claim them as ours. Our government is also less corrupt; Our presidents don't constantly assassinate one another.

In conclusion, a factor that played a major part in the decline and fall of the Roman Empire was the political corruption. Bribery and underhanded money-making led to weak and incompetent emperors who couldn't save the empire, leading to it's ultimate demise.
