Activity #1

.

Q: What should I do with my old cell phone when I buy a new one?

A: ①.People usually just throw their old cell phones in the trash. ②.In fact, according to the Ministry of the Environment of Korea, more than 18 million used cell phones were thrown away in 2010 in Korea alone. ③.In the United States, more than 130 million cell phones are thrown away every year. ④.Cell phones contain hazardous materials that damage the environment such as lead, mercury and arsenic. ⑤.They also contain valuable metals such as gold, silver and copper. ⑥.This makes it all the more important to recycle old cell phones. ⑦.Manufacturers can repair them for resale or reuse some materials and parts.

Activity #3 (groups)

①.Some people have the view that sometimes in life we have to take chances in order to make progress. ②.I admire such people. ③.It certainly takes courage to take risks. ④.But I am the type who likes to keep life safe. ⑤.Maybe it’s due to my upbringing. ⑥.People like me believe in the saying, “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” ⑦.Although such a lifestyle may, at times, be boring, it keeps me out of trouble. ⑧.I also admit that my lifestyle is not as colorful or exciting as other people’s, but at least it gives me a sense of security.
