Parliament Triumphs in England

Parliament was the Legislative body of England which advised the King.

King Henry VIII worked with Parliament. Ex. Asking to break with the Roman Catholic Church, raise taxes, etc...

King Charles I acted like an Absolute Monarch and broke up Parliament and ignored the Petition of Right - which required the King to ask Parliament to raise taxes and obey Habeas Corpus.

English Civil War - Charles I was supported by the Cavaliers. Parliament was supported by the Roundheads - led by Oliver Cromwell - A Puritan.

Roundhead - supporter of Parliament.

Cavalier - supporter of Charles I

The Cavaliers lose and Charles I is put on trial by reformed Parliament for treason. Found guilty, he was executed in 1649 - the first King executed by his own people.

Oliver Cromwell leads England as a Republic but made many enemies. Later on Charles I's brother James II runs away when challenged by his daughter Mary & husband William III = Glorious Revolution. William & Mary sign the English Bill of Rights for Parliament - making England a Limited Monarchy.
