How do cameleons change colors?

there are cell layers that under their transparet skin

some layers contain pigment

some create new colors by reflecting light

what colors can they change to?

why do chameleons change color?

they change color due to light,temperature, and emotional state. They do not change to blend in to their environment, its just a coincidence.

how long does it take for a color change to take place?

cameleons can change their color in 20 seconds!

mood?

  • most often: green, brown, or gray
  • when angry: red or yellow
  • to attract a mate: purple and light blue

How many Types ?

There are over 100 different species of chameleons!

Chameleon Color Change Experiment

Purpose:

the purpose of this experiment is to see how the color changes of chameleons are affected in different situations such as light and temperature

Materials:

2 male chameleons, 2 cages, sunlight, dark room, fan, heater, and a timer

Procedure:

1. prepare a formal lab write-up on a separate sheet of paper

2. place one chameleon in a cage and place it in the direct sunlight with a heater for 10mins. record the results.

3. place the same chameleon in direct sunlight with a fan for 10mins. and record the results.

4. now place the chameleon in a dark room with a heater for 10 mins. and record the results

5. place chameleon in a dark room with a fan for 10 mins. and record the results.

6. repeat steps 2-5 using the second chameleon

7. compare the results from both chameleons and answer questions.
