‘The week that will change Hollyoaks forever.’
The week advertised in this poster was the Hollyoaks historical pub inferno, were many characters died. This explains why all the characters are seen in this red flame type glow. I think the characters in the poster are those who died, left in a fiery grave which adds a chill factor to their fiery bodies.
Also the channel and date is shown at the bottom of the poster.
The Hollyoaks poster is mocking other soaps such as Eastenders and Coronation Street on the following…
Characters
Location
The drastic difference with both locations connotes A LOT of information.
Many mise on scene factors has been incorporated during the posters development. Colours for instance are a huge feature. Hollyoaks uses bright red (connotations of love, lust and evil), blue (connotations of youthfulness), silver and gold (connotations of glamour) and so forth; if compared to the tradition soaps dirty red (connotations of old, dead glamour), brown (connotations of boredom and the old) and dark colours (negative colours in general).

The reason I have the poster for Korean drama ‘world within’ is for its simplistic approach towards an affective poster. Using just a set, like the Hollyoaks trailer, the audience is able to build a relationship with not just the characters of the show but their actors.
Different positions within the framing shows which characters are dominant and main; for example, the man at the front centred to the side is higher up than the forward woman. This is because he is dominant over this character and it is apparent by his relaxed posture. These characters I believe are centred at the front because they are both the two lead roles of the drama.
Props used in the poster, such as the lighting equipment and ladders help add an alian factor to the piece, but still keeping its connection to real life, for its location on the set. This in turn has an ‘out of this world’ atmospheric emotion upon the audience, making the show very tempting to watch.
