Incompatibility Test

1 John 3:1-10

1 John 4:7-8

Theme

Verse

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God because God is love

Big Idea:

Big

Idea:

God's mind-blowing love for me stops me from being at peace with sin

God's Love

God's Love for Me:

  • It's Deep and Abiding--never ends and never stops
  • It sacrifices and gives
  • It moves beyond my sin and rebellion
  • It's gifted not deserved
  • It moves me from being God's enemy to a child of God

John 1:12--to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

I am a child of God right now and I can enjoy the benefits of that right now too!

We will become like Jesus

Romans 8:29--for those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son

The Test

The Incompatibility Test

  • Free from sin's penalty=justified, declared not guilty
  • Struggle to be free of sins power=sanctified, become like Jesus, so we admit our sin and strive towards perfection
  • We will be free from sin's presence=glorification

Taking Sin Lightly

  • It's only a white lie
  • it's not hurting anyone
  • no one knows
  • it makes me feel good, so it can't be that bad
  • I'm not as bad as so and so
  • Blame others
  • I want my own way so I deserve this

Reality: We can't both serve God and endorse sin

When a Christian sins, they hide who they really are

When an unbeliever sins, they show their true nature

What's the Difference?

Falling into sin: repentance, you don't want to stay there...yucky feeling...know you're not pleasing God.

All Sin

All sin no matter to what degree is Satanic in nature
