This shows how society looks at Chris, with much disgrace and anger. Society sees nothing but a crazy man that has no life goals and achievements.

Granted that Chris was crazy and was ill prepared for his heroic journey, this is what he wanted to do. McCandless had in his mind that this is what he wants to do, he followed his dream like most people should do.
This demonstrates that McCandless wanted to live off the land and rely on the land, not worldly things. Alex shows much bravery in his situation, no man in his right mind would think about going into the wilderness ill prepared.

Alex does not want any distractions from the world, he wants to live free and have no cares.For Alex to do such a courageous thing, it was an extremely stupid thing to do. Alex needs to realize that he needs emergency equipment to be able to survive in the Alaskan wildness.

Even though Chris was not to fond
of his parents, they adored him and his company. His parents showed him great affection, and much love, Chris is a rebel and wants nothing to do with his parents.
"It is simply not having him around anymore. I spent a lot of time with Chris, perhaps more than with any of my other kids. I really liked his company even though he frustrated us so often"(104).
This indicates that even before he went on his adventure he thought and dreamed on about this glorious day to come. People have warned him many times to not do this, but he doesn't listen. He was very ill prepared, even though he new what he was going to encounter.

This demonstrates that Chris wanted to show no emotion whats so ever to his family. Chris is very antisocial and wants no help from no one.

Chris had no means of communicating with the outside world, didnt want anything to do with it. Just by seeing a simple airplane Chris wanted to stay in the wild longer.
