Mission

To defend Australia and its national interests. In fulfilling this mission, Defence serves the Government of the day and is accountable to the Commonwealth Parliament which represents the Australian people to efficiently and effectively carry out the Government's defence policy.

Loyalty to Country: To protect and defend the nation, even if involves sacrificing one’s life

Leadership: Being able to influence and motivate one’s peers and fellow soldiers to carry out their mission confidently and to their best ability

Discipline:Obedience of orders and the timely and accurate execution of assigned tasks

Professionalism: Being proficient and reliable in one’s role and responsibility with a special emphasis on a sense of duty and service.

Fighting Spirit: Enable one to overcome obstacles and one mission with continued will and motivation despite all odds

Defence Policy

Founded on the principle of self-reliance in the direct defence of Australia, but with a capacity to do more where there are shared interests with partners and allies.

  • Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Australian Army, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and a number of ‘tri-service’ units
  • Strength of just over 80,000 full-time personnel and active reservists
