  • Mayella Ewell has accused Tom Robinson, a black man, of raping her
  • Atticus have to defend Tom Robinson
  • Public opinion is against him in a major way
  • Mayella lying about Tom robinson raping her
  • Tom was not convicted because he was guilty, but because he was black

Falling Action

  • Atticus lose his court case
  • Tom Robinson is found guilty of rape even though he's not
  • They sent Tom Robinson to jail
  • Tom Robinson was scared and nervous , so he trying to runaway
  • Tom was shot dead for trying to run away

  • People in the town think that he's crazy because he never get out of his house

The main conflict or problem in To Kill A Mockingbird is the children being confused on how a man can be convicted of something he didn't do even though the "victim" was obviously telling lies.

  • Jem had a broken arm but scout didn't tell us how he broke his arm
  • Scout flashback to the events that led up to how jem broke his arm

Background Information

Setting: The story take place in a small town called ''Maycomb'' in Alabama. The Story occurred during the Great Decision, so people in this town were racism to black people

Charaters: Scout - the main and the narrator of the novel.

Atticus- father's of jem and scout. He is a lawyer. He taught his kids that everyone is equal.
