  • in 1838 Jean E.E mentioned the syndrome and described it
  • in 1866 John L.D named the disease as a syndrome that could be delimited from other disabilities
  • only in the year 1959 some scientists discovered the cause of trisonomy 21

The Cause

  • during meiosis in Anaphase 1 the spindle aparatus pulls two 2-chromatid-chromosmes to a pole
  • in Anaphase 2 the spindle aparatus only seperates one of the 2-chromatid-chromsomes
  • 3 rd copy of 21 st chromosome

THE EFFECT

The Effects

  • average IQ of young adults is 50
  • nobody can have down syndrome in the family
  • look different
  • distinctive sexual drive
  • life expectancy is around 50 to 60
