Clarence F. Stephens was physically born on July 24, 1917 in Macon, Georgia. He was registered in Gaffney, South Carolina. He was the fifth of six children; he had three sisters and 2 brothers.
Mrs. Jeannette, his mother, died during a flu epidemic when Clarence was only two and his dad died when Clarence was eight.
