Who is Mr. Coombes?

Mr Coombes was the Headmaster of Llandaff Cathedral school and was the only teacher that Roald Dahl remembered for obvious reasons. Roald Dahl described him as "A giant man with a face like ham and a mass of rusty coloured hair that sprouted in a tangle all over the top of his head"

Where does boy find Mr Coombes

M

In

The first time you hear about Mr Coombes is when all the kids get called to find the culprits of the great mouse plot

Important events that lead to their meeting

R

As said in the previous slide, Dahls first important meeting commenced when the great mouse plot happened and the children at the school were being interrogated.

Mr Coombes personality

D

S

How I see Mr Coombes personality is aggressive and arrogant. He is this way because he is well aware that he has power and he is taking advantage of his position at the school. His fancy clothing suggests that he understands status and that he is a higher power.

K

How is his personality revealed to the reader?

C

His personality is revealed to the reader by how he merely demands attention and silence (How he talks) and his tweed suit and top hat (clothing). How he towers over the children as roald suggested also asserts his dominance and his spot at the school. other suggestions include how he holds his cane, and how he doesnt say much, as if talking is too obselete and lower-class.

My Reaction

e

My initial reaction was that Mr Coombes was a very arrogant character and that he wouldnt do to well in the modern society where most of the world is much more civilised and humane than the past society. An example of this is that teachers of any sort are prohibited to beat children of any age where previously it had been different. This evidence proves that Mr Coombes would have to adapt quickly or wouldnt fair well it today's environment

what message was Dahl giving?

W

I think that Dahl was just saying that the society that we live in now is much better thn it was before but mostly just saying it to lighten up the story and make it more exciting.
