God and Temptation

WORKS

Jas 1:13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.

Can God be tempted by sin?

Has God ever sinned ?

What is the root cause of your temptation?

Sin

What about sin?

I live a good life?

Word

Repentance

Repentance about Jesus Christ?

Greek: metanoia

Translation: to think differently

The authority of God's word in your life

Mat 7:24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

What does the word "Repentance" mean?

  • What is the rock?
  • Do you believe all the scripture are God inspired?
  • Are you willing to obey Jesus' teaching? Even if it hurts, you don't understand it or if it is not popular!

Act 2:36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"

The Seeking Ethiopian Eunuch

  • Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the resurrected Son of God?
  • Why were they cut to the heart? What does that look like?
  • Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?
  • Do you understand what happened at the cross in term of your sin?

Act 8:26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road--the desert road--that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." 27 So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means "queen of the Ethiopians"). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. 29 The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it." 30 Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked. 31 "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading: "He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 33 In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth." 34 The eunuch asked Philip, "Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?" 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. 36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?" 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

Are you responsible for what happened at the cross?

Are you cut to the heart and why does this matter?

Are you willing to give your life's purpose to God?

GOD Revealed

Word's Power

Faith » Works

Rom 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

Jas 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder. 20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?

Joh 14:8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." 9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

Holy Spirit

Gen 2:4  These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Yehôvâh 'ĕlôhı̂ym made the earth and the heavens, 5  And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Yehôvâh 'ĕlôhı̂ym had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

Isa 42:8  I am the Yehôvâh: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

HEBREW: yehôvâh (yeh-ho-vaw') From H1961; (the) self Existent or eternal

How can you grow your faith?

Are you making an effort to grow in your faith?

Mar 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Rom 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

Col 2:12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

Introduction Topic

Rom 4:23 The words "it was credited to him" were written not for him alone, 24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

Gal 3:1 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?

Creation

Mar 12:35  And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David? 36  For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The kurios (Lord) said to my kurios (Lord), Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. 37  David therefore himself calleth him kurios (Lord); and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

GREEK: kurios (koo'-ree-os) From κῦρος kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, that is, (as noun) controller; by implication Mr. (as a respectful title): - God, Lord, master, Sir.

Exo 3:14  And God said unto Moses, Hâyâh (I AM) THAT Hâyâh (I AM): and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, Hâyâh (I AM) hath sent me unto you.

HEBREW: hâyâh (haw-yaw') A primitive root (compare H1933); to exist

Faith in God

Gal 4:3 So also we, while we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental things of the world. 4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, 5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. 6 Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

Gen 1:1  In the beginning ĕlôhı̂ym (God) created the heaven and the earth.

HEBREW: 'ĕlôhı̂ym (el-o-heem') plural of H433; specifically used of the supreme Gods

Rom 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

Exo 34:14  For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Qannâ (Jealous), is a Qannâ (jealous) God:

HEBREW: Qannâ' (kan-naw') From H7065; jealous: - jealous.

Laws of writing the divine names

Character of God

Exo 6:3  And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of El (God) Shaddai (Almighty), but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

HEBREW: 'êl shadday (ale shad-dah'ee ) Shortened from H352; strength; as adjective mighty; especially the Almighty (but used also of any deity): - God

According to Jewish tradition, the sacredness of the divine names must be recognized by the professional scribe who copies the scriptures, or inscribes the tiny scrolls inserted in the tefillin and the mezuzah. Before transcribing any of the divine names the scribe must prepare mentally to sanctify them. Once he begins a name he does not stop until it is finished, and he must not be interrupted while writing it, even to greet a king. If an error is made in writing it, it may not be erased, but a line must be drawn round it to show that it is canceled, and the whole page must be put in a genizah (burial place for scripture), and a new page begun.

Mat 17:18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" 20 He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

What Hinders

At any point, is God willing to forgive your sins?

Rom 1:18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.

His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead.

What are some of the teachings people want to hear?

What are some of the teachings people don't want to hear?

Eph 2:8-10 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Are you a Christian or disciple?

What should you do to be a disciple of Jesus?

Be honest and truthful to yourself.

Does our work save us?

Why were we created?

Do you think that you are fulfilling the purpose of your life?

Do you want to live the true purpose for your life?

Luk 9:23 Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. 25 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? 26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

The heart questions require prayer, humility and introspection. The heart questions are tough because they are a test for your humility.

Wrong or right...just be honest with yourself and others. You will find that we all have similar weaknesses.

It will be hard for you if you are not supported by a friend, a friend that is not afraid to speak the truth and that loves God. Your friend will encourage you and keep you accountable to your own decision.

I still find these questions challenging but they are good for me.

Where would the best place be to worship God?

Are you open for the truth even if it hurts?

Are you willing to choose truth over friends?

Are you making disciples?

Do you believe Jesus will be with you?

(Find some-one that does this and learn from them)

  • How long should we obey teachings?

The challenge to be a true disciple

Luk 9:57 Once Jesus and those who were with him were walking along the road. A man said to Jesus, "I will follow you no matter where you go." 58 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes. Birds of the air have nests. But the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." 59 He said to another man, "Follow me." But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." 60 Jesus said to him, "Let dead people bury their own dead. You go and tell others about God's kingdom." 61 Still another man said, "I will follow you, Lord. But first let me go back and say good-by to my family." 62 Jesus replied, "Suppose you start to plow and then look back. If you do, you are not fit for service in God's kingdom."

What were the excuses the people made not to follow Jesus?

What are some of the excuses we make today?

Do you obey all his teachings?

Do you still obey his teachings today?

What is your weakness and why?

What can you do about it?

Hint: Trust me....I still make excused not to do Jesus work on a daily basis.

You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you."

Act 2:36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" 38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call." 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

Mar 16:15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

I don't claim to be somebody but only wish to help others to find the truth. My life is full of errors from which I hope to learn from. Most of all, I am dependent on the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ to stand. I therefore have nothing to boast about and I am neither eloquent in speech.

Please give me any feedback and encourage me with your story. Feel free to invite anybody that can benefit from this tool. Try and learn the bible yourself while you help others to grow in their faith.

If you need support please contact me so that I can arrange something for you. Also let me know if you see errors or if you have suggestions.
