The climax of the Maze Runner is when Thomas and the galders take control of the Maze and escape. The gladers fight the grievers and some die, but many survive. This is the major turning point and it shows the protagonist taking control.
Thomas and the gladers escape the maze and come face to face with the creators. They learn that the maze was created by WICKED. The gladers are in a small room underground when Gally is revealed. Then, Gally-who seems to be struggling-kills Chuck. This devastates Thomas.
The next morning Minho and Thomas go out into the Maze and realize the walls haven't moved like they do every night. When they get back to the Glade, the doors don't close. Every night, Grievers reek havoc on the glade. Thomas takes advantage of this and gets stung by the griever. This helps him get some memories back. Thomas remembers working and creating the maze. Also, he learns that the maze is a code.
While Thomas is mourning Chuck, a team of rescuers come and kill the people from WICKED. These people take the gladers to a bus where they get information about the Flare-a disease that has taken over Earth.
They survive the night in the maze with minimal injuries. After Thomas becomes a runner, Gally and Minho get in an argument, causing Gally to run into the maze. After serving his punishment, Thomas starts his training with Minho. Minho shows Thomas the basics of the Maze, while still exploring. Thomas is intrigued by thew workings of the Maze. Minho and Thomas both test The Cliff to see if it is an exit and find it may work.
During a conversation with Minho, Thomas finds out that Minho found a dead griever in the maze. Grievers are the monsters that guard the maze and the things that caused Ben to go crazy. So, Minho and Alby go to into the maze. However, when they do not return in time, Thomas runs into the maze as the doors close.

In The Maze Runner the theme of bravery and friendship is very present, many characters risk their lives for the sake of saving those around them in various acts of self-sacrifice. Thomas risks his own life, entering into the Maze to save Alby and Minho. In contrast to Thomas’s act of bravery, Minho leaves behind the two of them in order to save his own life.
Thomas meets Ben, a boy who is seemingly crazy. Thinking Thomas is evil ,Ben attacks Thomas in the woods. Thomas is barely able to escape from Ben, but Alby comes to his rescue and shoots Ben. However, Thomas learns from Chuck that Ben didn't die from the arrow. This results in Ben being banished.
