In 1920, with the passage of the 18th amendment, liquor is banned in the U.S. 3 years later, Interpol is founded. J. Edgar Hoover becomes director of BOI in 1924. He begins to require that agents have college degrees. In 1930, The Uniform Crime Report is used by the FBI.

1900-1919
New York began to use the Auburn style of imprisonment in 1820. this focuses on silence as each inmate was in his own cell. 9 years later, the first modern police force is formed in London. Cities like New York and San Francisco also form police forces in 1844 and '49.
New York becomes the first city to have uniformed police officers in 1693. The U.S. Federal Court System is created in 1789 as part of the Judiciary Act
In 1908, the Attorney General, Charles Bonaparte, creates a special agent
force in the Department of Justice, The Bureau of Investigation (BOI), which is now known as the
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), is established. In 1919, The National Motor Vehicle Theft Act (Dyer Act) is passed in Congress. This makes it easier to investigate auto thefts.
