Todorov's Narrative Theory

1. Equilibrium

The first part of the story always starts with a happy start where the majority of the characers will be content.

an example would be the beginning of the Lion King when simba is a cub and is playing with his childhood friends.

5. Equilibrium Again

Narrative theory

2. A Disruption

In the final part of the plot equilibrium has been restored and the problem has been completely erased.

everyone has been freed from tyranny and simba is now king.

Tzvetan Todorov was a french philosopher who stated that most story's or plot lines follow the same pattern or path. he claimed their were five steps to this.

The second part of the story will consisted of a big disruption to the stories equilibrium.

in the lion king the death of simbas father mufasa, simba then flees to the jungle.

3. Realization

4. Restored Order

in this part of the plot everyone will realise that there is a problem and that there is chaos.

in the lion king this occurs when a grown up simba is confronted by his childhood friend, who tells him that his uncle has brought chaos to his home.

This is the part where the characters attempt to restore order and fix the problem.

so simba goes back to confront his uncle.
