The Battle of Hastings (14 October 1066) was the decisive

Norman victory in the Norman Conquest of England.

It was fought between the Norman army of William the Conqueror,

and the English army led by Harold Godwinson.

The battle took place at Senlac Hill, approximately 6 miles

northwest of Hastings.

The Bayeux Tapestry is a 50 cm by 70 m (20 in by 230 ft) long embroidered cloth—not an actual tapestry—which explains the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England as well as the events of the invasion itself. The Tapestry is annotated in Latin. It is presently exhibited in a special museum in Bayeux.
