Gear Libraries and Growing Community Capacity to Connect Youth to the Outdoors!

1. Build a trusted team!

2. Storage for Outdoor Gear = The Gear Library. Area large enough to accommodate drying tents, laundry facilities. Min. 500 sq. feet.

3. Outdoor Gear: This is where OEN provides the highest level of support to its members annually, in

the form of donated and highly discounted outdoor equipment and clothing.

4. Competent Outdoor Educators: The outdoor leadership trainings that preclude access to the gear libraries should be delivered by outdoor educators with current (WFA/WFR/WEMT) certifications and significant field experience.

5. Funding: Multi-year commitment if possible, to allow for program planning, implementation, adjustments in scale, etc.

Situation: There’s a growing gap between humans and our connection to nature.

Answer: An inclusive network, with independent programs, using a train and support model

that attacks multiple barriers,

in a way that allows for cultural

relevancy and long term impact.

Complication: The barriers to the outdoors are increasing and systemic.

Question: How do we address

these barriers to access?
