"I would say that most people in our company didn't consider the Vietnamese human."

—Dennis Bunning

The 4th batallion had entered the hamlet with the orders to close wells, destroy foodstuffs, and kill livestock.

"Go in there aggressively, close with the enemy and wipe them out for good."

-Colonel Oran K. Henderson

After the massacre, there were many cover ups by the U.S. government.

The first reports claimed that "128 Viet Cong and 22 civilians" were killed in the village during a "fierce fire fight"

The massacre may have have stayed unknown if it weren't for a letter from a soldier by the name of Ron Ridenhour.

Of the 26 troops involved, only 1 was convicted. (2nd lt William Calley)

"There is not a day that goes by that I do not feel remorse for what happened that day in My Lai"

He only served 3 years out of a life sentece

After the info was leaked, opposition towards the Vietnam war increased, and the government realized they needed stronger leadership for their troops.

This was the mass murder conducted by a unit of the U.S. army on March 16, 1968 of 347–504 unarmed citizens in South Vietnam.
