Differences between SEI, Bilingual, and ILLP

SEI Classrooms

- Only English is spoken

- 4 hours of English Language Development daily

- Entry and exit is determined by AZELLA

Bilingual Classrooms

- Content is taught in two languages, the student's primary and secondary languages

- Amount of time spoken in each language is determined by the program model

ILLP

- Not a classroom, but an individual plan for each ELL student

- Only applicable for schools with 20 or fewer ELLs within a 3 grade span

Scenario Responses

1. According to the Structured English Immersion Models document, all pre-emergent and emergent students are to be grouped together for optimal instruction.

2. If these students demonstrate overall proficiency on the AZELLA, they may reduce their time by up to 2 hours.

3. These strudents are missing an English Grammar course and a Conversational English and Academic Vocabulary class.
