The Australian coastline
is full of colorful and unique animals that all have their adaptations that help them adapt to their environment.
The whale shark is the second largest fish in the sea. This fish has a very wide jaw which helps it catch plankton and on occasions it eats krill, jellyfish, sardines, anchovies, mackerels, crabs, and squid. It also has a pair of dorsal fins and pectoral fins which provides stability when it swims.
This unique fish is known all over the world, but Australia has one of the biggest cuttlefish. The cuttlefish is a very intelligent animal with incredible skills. It uses it's camouflage ability to hide from it's predators. It also uses it's speed to get away quickly when it is being harmed. Even though this fish is color blind, it can flash different patterns and colors to communicate with others. The cuttlefish also has advanced sensory skills which help them sense different patterns.
This jellyfish is one of the most venomous animals known to humans. With just one sting from this animal you can die. Besides it's venomous stings, it also has little eyes on its tentacles that contain retinas, corneas and lenses that allow them to distinguish colors as well as sense points of light.
Like the Cuttlefish the Leafy Sea Dragon uses camouflage as well. It has leaf like features that help it look like a piece of seaweed floating in the water. This animals colors are mainly yellows, a little bit of brown, with light green colors. These colors help it look more like seaweed and avoid predators.
Unlike other fish, the Lungfish has the ability to breath with just one lung. During dry periods when the streams become stagnant they have the ability to surface and breath air.
