Introduction

The Banjo, the banjo is a six string instrument and is used to create some of the worlds best music. Many of you may be familiar with it but if not, no worries im here to explain it all.

There has been multiple theories about the origin of the word banjo such as the it originated from the pronunciation of the portuguese word "Bandore" . Another is that it it said to have originated from a west african term "Bamboo stick"

Banjos were built around a gourd body and wooden neck. The banjo has varying amount of strings such as a 6-string banjo and a 5-string which is more popular.

The maintenance of the banjo, when doing the maintenance of the banjo you need to be very careful because it it very fragile

The Fingerboard

The Head

Here are the steps to clean a fingerboard

When cleaning the head of a banjo you have to use a white paper towel and a counter cleaners and gently wipe the head. Then you have to use a glass cleaner such as Windex to wipe it down to remove the fingerprints. That's how you clean the head.

• 1) Rub oil into the wood
• 2) Make sure you have short fingernails on your fretting hand to prevent grooves from occurring on the fingerboard.
• 3) Finally do not press to hard on the frets this can also cause groves on the banjo.

There are many people who played the banjo and made it famous such as Syd Barett and David Crowder but you dont know those people but there are others that you may know that helped make the banjo popular. Their names are well who other then John Lennon and Taylor Swift. That's right these to amazing singers also play the banjo you might have even heard in there songs now lets move on to the when and where its was played.

There are many ways to play a banjo but it is mostly played by the three finger picking style which is used to play old and new bluegrass music, which is the most popular music played by a banjo.

The banjo was devoloped in the 18th century but it only became popular in the 1900s when it was first nationally aired on TV in 1945 and was a popular instrument from then on.

The banjo was made in west Africa which is where it became most popular and the is where it was mostly played but it has become a very popular instrument and is now used all over the world to create music.
