Fear, Family, and Selfishness
Family is a basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not. Mr Frank says, "This will be our
common room, where we’ll meet to talk and eat
and read, like one family" (293-295) Family is a great theme in this play. In the play we see the difference of the two families. We see that a family can be very uplifting or a family can be very hurtful and cruel.
Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the prediction of danger. Mr. Frank says, "For the past two years we have lived in fear. Now we can live in hope" (1287-1288).
Fear was a very important part of the play. Every character felt fear in some part of the play. Fear really changes the play and makes it what it is.
