95% of herbicides reach a destination other than their target species. Runoff can carry pesticides into aquatic environments. Wind can carry residue to other fields, grazing areas, and residential areas possibly affecting other species.
Most pesticides contain an organic compound
called Glyphosate Isopropylamine Salt. Using this
product specifically on aquatic weeds can result
in oxygen depletion due to decomposition of dead
plants. The loss of this oxygen can cause fish
suffocation.
If animals such as dogs and other domestic pets ingest Glyphosate IPA this can result in temporary gastrointestinal irritation (vomiting, diarrhea, colic, etc.).
There are many harmful chemicals in pesticides although Glyphosate Isopropylamine salt is a common white powdery organic compound used as a herbicide to control weeds and grasses. The chemical has double bonds within it and is also a polar molecule. It is an active ingredient in pesticides such as herbicides and insectisides.
Pesticides have been linked to a large variety of human health hazards, ranging from short-term impacts to long-term impacts.
Short term effects include: headaches, nausea, skin irritation
Isopropylamine salt of glyphosate is
an example of an acid base reaction.
Long-term effects include: Damage to the
lungs, damage to the liver, damage
to the nervous system, and cancer.
Pesticides have also been linked to
reproductive harm such as sterility, birth
defects, or damage to hormone producing
glands causing miscarriage or stillborn.
Pesticides are an easy and efficient way of getting rid of pests such as reoccurring weeds, insects, and or animals digging up your garden. However, there are some simple home made remedies that work just as well if not better. One alternative is vinegar, vinegar consists of approximately 5% acetic acid and 95% water. The acetic acid in vinegar is what gives it it's weed killing abilities. It is a safer alternative to chemicals used in pesticides because when sprayed on a weed, it dries out the plant. It then gets absorbed into the soil where the acids and bases in the soil neautralize it making it less toxic to our environment.
Some other environmentally safe ways to control pests is salt water, sound repellent devices, burn them, boiling water, and mulch.

The fact that Glyphosate Isopropylamine is soluble in water serves
as a disadvantage because when introduced to our environment, it
will be able to spread through rain runoff into our water resources.
Although the fact that it's odorless is an advantage because it
won't leave behind a smell around the environment.
