REQUIREMENTS

Volunteers selected for the program will be required to:

  • Attend a mandatory eight hour training class.

  • Make two supervised on-board runs to successfully complete the training and begin service.

  • Wear their Trails & Rails uniform.

  • Commit to a minimum of one trip every two months.

NEC Trails & Rails NPNH Program

  • All Trails & Rails trips are same day trips between New York Penn Station and Washington D.C. Union Station.

  • All Trails & Rails guides will be equipped with a:

--Round-trip ticket,

--iPad,

--Uniform,

--Meal,

--Resource guide, and

--Training.

ABOUT

Northeast Corridor Region

(NEC)

The National Park Service and Amtrak have partnered together since 2000 to provide on-board education programs to Amtrak passengers through its “Trails & Rails” program. Today, there are over 25 programs across the country. The National Park Service is now seeking qualified volunteers to serve as on-board Guides for a new program that will be sponsored by the National Parks of New York Harbor (NPNH) with a weekly program running between New York Penn Station and Washington, DC Union Station.

  • 50 million people

  • 12 million Amtrak passengers annually

  • 61 NPS sites along NEC between Boston and Washington, D.C.

  • Numerous state, county, and local parks and places of interest.
