Andrew Jackson Second Term

Andrew Jackson Was re-elected in 1832, as a Democrat in a landslide victory against William Wirt. He was the Seventh President of the united states, and served for 8 years. Michigan and Arkansas were added to the union during his second term.

His Vice President was Martin Van Buren(1833-1837) for his second term. His Secretary of state changed from Louis McLane(1833-1834) to John Forsyth(1834-1837).

He ran for president in 1824, but lost to Jon Quincy Adams. He ran again in 1828 and won, and then went on to run again in 1832 to win a second term.

In the election of 1832, Andrew Jackson won the election with a popular vote of 688,242 votes, and 219 Electoral votes in the democratic favor. He won in a landslide.

The compromise tariff was an act that weened off other tariffs put on the Carolinas, after the Carolinas threatened to sucede.

Cyrus McCormick invented "The Reaper" which was in a sense a very early cutivator. This helped Jackson's presidency when the economy boomed. Crops were harvested faster, and these machines were built in a factory in Chicago and shipped out all over the U.S.

The treaty of New Echota with the Cherokees was important because it forced Cherokee indians out of their land in Georgia. This would go on to be known as the "Trail of Tears"

Alexis de Tocqueville wrote Democracy in America Volume 1. This was important because he was one of the first french writers to write internationaly about the United States new government

The second Seminole war was fought between the Union and various tribes of Indians in the southeast United states. This was the most expensive war fought between Indians and the Union.

The first McGuffey's Readers were published in 1936, and at least 120 million (Updated versions) were sold into 1960, putting it in the same tier of sales as The Bible and Webster's dictionary. McGuffey's Readers were textbooks used in many United states households.

In June of 1936 Arkansas Enters the union as the Twenty Fifth State, and is established as a free state.

In January 1937 Michigan Enters the union as the Twenty Sixth state and is established as a free state.

Charles River Bridge v. Warren Bridge was a case heard by the supreme court during Jackson's presidency that was about the constitutional obligation of Contract.

In 1837, John Deere invented the Steel tipped plow, making farming and plowing a lot easier for many farmers across the United States. By 1855, Deere was selling over 10,000 steel plows a year.

The Texas War for Independence began in October of 1835, and ended in April 1836. The Mexican President Antoonio Lopez de Santa Anna passed many laws that angered many Texans, who decided to rebel. They won the rebelion with Union help issued by Jackson.

The Battle for the Alamo also occured during the Texas revolution. A 13 day siege was staged during this battle, and all but two Texas troops were killed. While the Alamo was lost, it was essential for the local rebels. It inspired them to fight back and even harder.

Samuel Colt patented his revolver in 1835 during Jackson's presidency. This affected his Presidency because this was another step into advanced weaponry for the civil war.

Specie Circular was an executive order given by Jackson in 1936, and carried out by president Martin Van Buren. This required all Government land to be payed for in Gold and silver. This caused inflation to skyrocket, and ead to the Panic of 1837, which was when people were afraid they're paper money was useless and couldn't buy anything.
