In ABA, skill acquisition is acquired through the three term contingency which is comprised of an antecedent, behavior, and consequence.
This three term contingency can be taught through discrete trials teaching techniques, where the therapist controls the antecedents and when/how they are delivered or naturalistic teaching opportunities where we wait for the environment to present the antecedents.
