Details about the test for this year.

  • Students need 75% to pass.
  • Use the space provided.
  • Answer every questions, because every mark counts.
  • Use your time wisely. Time management is a key for this test.
  • To receive you OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma), you must pass the OSSLT.
  • Transcripts are updated, and a pass is required for those considering university.

Components of Literacy

This year, the OSSLT will be held on:

  • Thursday March 31, 2016.

The test will be written by:

  • Grade 10 students.

For all subjects--all areas of life.

Reading: decoding words and understanding the vocabulary.

Writing: conveying ideas clearly with age appropriate vocabulary and ideas.

Comprehension: understanding what the words you have read mean. What is the message, context, details.

Graphic Organizers: understanding what you are reading based on the information that is presented.

Inferencing: making educated predictions based on evidence and logical reasoning.

What is the OSSLT?

The OSSLT is a standardized test that measures basic literacy skills. It is a snapshot of how the grade 10 students are doing across the province.
