Charles Shulz

Charles Shulz, Charlie Brown, and Schroeder

Charles Shulz made Charlie Brown's personality and Schroeder after himself. In the video the proffessor says that Shulz was sort of melancholy and in the comic strips, Charlie Brown is always sad our down on himself. Also, Shroeder and Shulz were both completely commited to their work; Shulz and his comics and Schroeder with his piano.

Lucy + Joyce

Snoopy + Spike

Shulz in War

Shulz saw his wife, Joyce, as commanding and wanting attention,

so he made the Peanuts character, Lucy, after her. Lucy would always trick Charlie Brown. She would also tell everybody what to do, especially her little brother Linus.

Shulz made Charlie Brown's pet dog Snoopy, after his family dog from when he was a kid, Spike. Like Snoopy, Spike must have been kind of demanding like asking for food and trying to get Shulz to take him outside. Also, I think Spike loved his doghouse.

When Shulz was younger, he was in the 20th armored infantry as a machine gunner. In WW2, 1945, Shulz even participated in live combat. He received the Combat Infantry Badge and was discharged on January 6, 1946.

Franklin- The First Colored Peanut

Charles Shulz's Cartoons

About a week after the assassination of MLKJ, Harriet Glickman wrote a letter to Mr. Shulz asking him to create a colored Peanuts character. At first, he was concerned it would be condescending, but after a few conversations with her colored friends, Glickman found that most people liked the idea. So, Franklin was born.

To Charles Shulz, cartoons were the most important thing to him in his life. It says in his biography that he knew from an early age he wanted to be a cartoonist and that every Sunday he would sit down with his dad and read the funny papers. As a cartoonist, he would work five days a week, all day just writing cartoons for the Sunday papers.
