Influenza or flu is a contagious disease that attacks the respiratory system through a virus. It can be very mild or it can be a severe illness. Some people, like older people, very young children, and people with illnesses already are most at risk.

The influenza virus is usually caused by the virus traveling through the air from people when they sneeze, cough and even talk while sick. When this happens you can inhale particles from the virus , or when you touch someone or something from the infected person.

The flu can be treated with or without medication depending on how severe it is. For most people the basic cold and flu medications work to get rid of the virus along with plenty of rest in your bed. However, if you get sicker then you must see a doctor immediately because the flu can become worse or life threatening if not treated correctly.

There are several great ways to prevent the flu. One of these would be to get the flu shot so that it can help protect your system from the virus. Also remember to always wash your hands often to keep the germs of the virus from staying on you. Keep your distance from those that are sick and have healthy habits in your life to help keep your immune system strong to protect you from the flu.
