La Leyenda del Perro de Piedra

(The Legend of the stone Dog)

It is said that at his departure, the dog jumped into the water,up to the reefs that are facing the Castle of San Jerónimo, to await the return of his master. But he spent days and nights ...

then the weeks and years, and the soldier never returned. It is said that the dog even

awaits the arrival of his master, but he turned into stone by the passing of the years.

The Legend of the Stone Dog

The stone is located in The Beach ''Condado'', San Juan.

This is the story of a Spanish soldier who found a dog in the streets of Old San Juan. When he found the dog, he raised him and over time they loved each other and lived happily.

Until one day the soldier had to go to a battle that was not his and

left to Cuba to fight in a Spanish colony, leaving "Güesipelao"

  (dog's name) on the island.

Some legends begin and remain oral, while others have the same origin but subsequently become written. In Puerto Rico, for example, there are excellent legends related to the conquest, the Tainos and the period of colonization.

It also highlights a legend, which states its history in right places, which are part of reality. Furthermore, it relates to facts, places, monuments, people or communities. The facts recounted in a normal legend, are transformed with the passing of the years, unless the legends are written because it does not have that feature.

This way they have reached us. They arise due to the need for humans to allude to the wonderful. A legend has as main feature, which is oral, a spoken narrative traditionally broadcast in a place, a people, a population.

Legend

A legend is a story of human events that are transmitted from generation to generation and is perceived by both the sender and receiver, as part of history, they have their origin in the oral tradition and have been passed like a chain.
